Rabbits daily care is not too complex, but they are still a decent amount of work.

They need special vet care, and are prone to stomach issues. Rabbits are prey animals however, so you need to be an observant bunny owner. Taking note of your rabbits normal behaviors, and noting anything that is out of the ordinary is important.

As discussed in the “Living Area” page rabbit's do need plenty of space to run and exercise. This allows them to live enriched lives and stay healthy. Rabbits also need access to hay to keep their digestive systems.

Litter Training

Did you know you can litter train your rabbit?

This makes free roaming cleaner and easier. This also keeps most of your rabbit's mess in one area. There are so many resources on how to litter train you rabbit. Consistent litter training usually requires you rabbit to be fixed, but having you rabbit fixed is also just generally good for them.

Vet Needs

Rabbits need to be fixed as it helps with their temperament and territorial behaviors.

Since rabbits are technically exotic animals they require specific vet care, which is often more expensive and difficult to find than the average dog and cat vet. You need to have access to exotic vet care, so you can take you rabbit there for yearly check. Your vet can help you keep an eye on things your rabbit may be hiding from you because they are prey animals.

Enrichment

Rabbits need lots of different toys to keep them entertained.

Keeping your rabbit entertained can keep them from chewing on things they shouldn't. Toys for rabbits do not have to be complicated. There is a variety at the pet store, but you can also very easily make toys or use normal objects as toys. Rabbits love toilet paper rolls, and there is so many resources on how to make them into toys. You can also you daily items like baby stacking cups and Slinkies as enrichment toys. Socialization

Rabbits are prey animals, so when you are bonding with your new pet you should take things slow.

You should also not attempt to pick them up as this will scare them. Some people say rabbits must be in pairs, but this is often debated in the community. It is important to consider how much time you will be home with your rabbit. If you are going to be gone often it may be important to get your rabbit a friend. Bonding rabbits can be complex and difficult, but if you look to adopt many rabbits shelters have surrendered pairs. This cuts out the stress of trying to bond a pair.
